May the fourth be with you

I guess it is official, I am indeed an old fogey. Today I went to visit my favorite watering hole in the Haight section of San Francisco. As I was walking from the bus stop to the pub I noticed several people dressed as Star Wars troopers. Out of 7 that I saw 2 were wearing black utilikilts. Unfortunately I was not expecting anything of interest and so didn't bother to bring my camera.
When I asked what was going on I was told it was "May the fourth be with you day". This is the first I have heard of this "holiday". When did it begin?
I know SF has many "unusual" holidays throughout the year but this was a new one for me. I guess it's as they say, you live and learn.

Well, it's just a pun Phil. Since today is "May the fourth" and the "blessing" used in the Star Wars culture is "May the force be with you" it sounded close enough for a few witty clowns to make something of it.

Frankly, it sounds like harmless nonsense to me. I announced it today in church before the service. I don't know how long it's been around.

    All best always, my friend!

Cinco de Mayo is like the #2 holiday for DUIs after St. Patrick's Day. Same reason, folks go out after work to celebrate and have too much without realizing it. Enjoy, but be careful.

Just got my free black Utilikilt Workman's....so do I need to buy some Star Wars gear to go with it now?

My daughter got married yesterday -- no kilted reference, though the
processional was the "Empire March". It rather surprised me. She's
always given me static about being too "geeky".
