Kilts and bagpipes in Mexico
The Saint Patricks Battalion was originally a group of immigrant Irish soldiers. A wee bit of almost "forgotten" history, north of the Rio Grande.

Ha! They played at my Brother-in-Laws wedding (in Leon, MX). It totally freaked the neighbours out! I have photos somewhere, and I'm sure has a video. They also play at the St Andrews day ball in Mexico City, which I have a standing invitation to attend, but never seem to make it to.

Great little band. They played at the World Championships in Glasgow last summer. Their pipe major was, I think, that young man in the video. He played penny whistle, gaita and maybe violin during ceilidhs at the Ben Nevis. The band was really good. It was their first contest.

If you get a chance, check out "San Patricio" by the Chieftains and Ry Cooder. Lots of traditional music, both Celtic and Mexican, with a ton of guest groups and musicians. Tells a lot of the story of "Los Colorados," another of the names of the St. Patricks. So called because of the color they got from being so sunburned. Still annually remembered and feted down in Mexico.
