			8 yard kilts

Does anyone have any advice on where I can purchase a relatively inexpensive 8 yard kilt. The 3 which I currently have are all 4 yard kilts. I really like them, but I like the look of all of the 8 yard kilts which I have seen at festivals. However I don't have @500 or more to spend on a kilt at this time. $300 to $400 is about my limit. I am also a portly type. so I know that this will make a new kilt even more expensive.

Traditionals start at around $220 or so and the "fat tax" is more then reasonable.

I agree, you can also buy them from bear kilts and southern celt kilts, both are contributors/sponsors here.
I have 2 USA kilts which are 8 yards, they are great.

You should probably be able to find a very nice, hand-stitched, 13oz worsted wool, 8yrd for the upper end of the price range you mentioned.
Hand-stitched vs. machine stitched, and wool vs. poly-viscose will both make a noticeable difference in both price and quality. So you have to decide what your preference is in these two categories.

scottishkilts.net (which I vouch for, owning my trad. from them) has an 8yd, 13oz, hand-stitched for $384.25US
they also have an 8yd, 13oz, machine stitched (which I haven't seen in person) for $311.75US.

bear (bearkilts.com) has 8yrd polyviscose kilts for the $225-265US range (depending on your size). If I personally were going poly-viscose, I would probably only get one from bear.

I have an 8 yard PV kilt in Royal Stewart from Bear. This is a very well made kilt and worth every penny. The attention to detail and quality is unmatched. If you want a durable, long lasting, very well made 8-yard kilt in poly/viscose go with Bear. The wait is a bit longer, but the quality is worth it.

Freedom Kilts sells kilts with deep pleats and high quality. For example, a 44inch waist kilt takes 7.76 yards of 10 oz. Brushed Twill fabric.
The hang of the pleats is smooth and very close to worsted with the advantage of being machine washable.
Price for a 44 in waist basic kilt is $195.00CDN or about $127.00 US.
The web site has a currency convertor to ease the math.

Hope this helps you make your decision.

Consider looking on e-bay for an 8-yard kilt. If you know your size and aren't too particular about tartan, you can sometimes find one for a good price.
