Is there a collection of vintage kilt photos?

I keep seeing these old photos posted and wonder if we have a thread devoted to them?

Or are there collections of photos online?

There have been threads in the past that have asked members to post photos of kilts being worn. There was a thread devoted to HRH Prince Charles, a thread for anyones old photos of men in kilts. A lot of the photos came from the Web and a lot of posters did not credit the original source. O C Richard has a fine collection of photos, postcards etc. showing kiltwearing in the past. A search thru the search function on the forum should pull up a lot of the old threads. Cheers

If I'm not mistaken the OP is asking if there is some single source for all the photos he sees here.

Well, frankly no, not as any organized body of work. Kilt wearing is not an earth shaking or government toppling topic to most people.

But many of our member do have a keen interest. and do derive pleasure from, collecting photos they run across on the web, in antique stores and elsewhere.

All we have ever asked is that due credit is given when photos are reproduced here. That is not much to ask. Common courtesy for an artists work.

So, as it is unlikely that there will be a multi-billion dollar Federal research grant to collect every kilt photo ever taken I think we here are doing a pretty good job.

Our members have compiled perhaps one of the greatest collections of kilt photos the world has ever known.

Hey, think about it. X Marks is the worlds single source for all the kilt photos ever taken. How cool is that?

Yes McMurdo's link will take you to the very thread the OP asks about. The thread about Prince Charles' kilt fashion is excellent too http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-photos-49608/

There's a site in Australia, the School of Piping, which has a fantastic photo gallery of vintage photos of pipers.

I don't think the OP was asking about the Prince Charles thread.
I think he was asking about old kilt photos in general.

Thank you for that! I've been in there hours at a time now. Just the thing while I recover from surgery today. (A stone in my salivary gland)

The thing I see happening in the old threads, which is a problem for all kinds of forums, is that photos linked elsewhere like photobucket are disappearing as accounts get cleared and other things.

While we have no control over a members photobucket account it is unfortunate that sometimes photo do disappear.

We also must be mindful of copyright. If a photo is lifted from somewhere under copyright, and the owner complains, we must remove offending photos. It does happen on occasion but gratefully our members are pretty good folks so it happens seldom.
