Ties
Ive been slowly adding to my tie collection. My ties collection runs the whole gammit, solid, stripe, tartan, geometric, paisley, flowered/painted.
This is my last 2.

What is the feeling about flowered/painted ties with kilt wear?

My preference for kilt attire is to wear a striped tie, a solid color, or one with minimal pattern. But I wear tartan kilts and ties like you mentioned might go with something more contemporary.

I agree with cck, and I would add tartan neckties. Flowered neckties with traditional tartan kilts, I don't think so.

When I started wearing the kilt I wore a solid coloured tie however I have recently started wearing striped ties with the kilt. I favour the Army Benevolent Fund tie. It works with most every kilt in my collection. Here is a link to the ABF store

I'm not crazy about the look of those ties with the kilt and prefer a school/club/regimental or crest pattern but I think I could make it work if that's all I had.

If you like them; wear them. If you're the odd man, then that will make you unique, but not necessarily eccentric.

Personally, I think they don't work well with a kilt. And not just because of "tradition". Aesthetically, they tend to fight with the clean, straight, neat lines of tartan. Even if the colours matched or complemented a tartan, I would find the difference in patterns to be distracting to each other. I do think a certain level of difference in patterns can be nice (like a striped tie with a kilt, or even a tie with a small repeating pattern of dots, etc.). But one pattern has to be dominant, with the other playing second fiddle. Large-pattern floral ties, however, tend to want to compete visually with the tartan.
But that's just my personal taste, and it's only offered because you asked! If you like floral ties, go for it. I promise the kilt police will not lock you up (they may temporarily detain you for questioning, but they will release you).

I wear striped "regimental"-STYLED ties (since I feel that my Civil Air Patrol service is insuffficient to merit the Air Force tie) and self-coloured ties whether kilted or in Sassenach dress.

These days, tie wearing in general has shifted. One large school of thought has it that ties are for the middle and upper middle salaryman types. You are somebody's employee and the tie is proof of your bondage. The cool kids do not wear them. Neither do various other self-defined types. Another school, waning, but still holding on, has it that a tie is a sign of being a grown up and a responsible professional person. I think this group tends to wear "traditional" ties as a sign of their allegiance to a loose set of values. I am probably a member of this group, most of the time. But I do not wear one every day.
But there is a third group- the people who do not have to wear a tie, but they choose to, like a scarf or a vest or some other accessorizing garment. These guys might wear a tie in such a way as to emphasize that they don't HAVE to wear one, like wearing it with no socks or wearing it with a denim shirt or even shorts. I think the flower* and painted ties tend to fit with this group, though bow ties are also popular with these folks.
So maybe you ought to figure out where you are on the tie spectrum and then see how that meshes with your kilt wearing. Are you a stand up guy? Are you slightly hip? Do you dress 'for the job you hope to have some day'? Do you wear a tie because someone wants you to? Is wearing a tie an act of rebellion or an act of allegiance for you?
Or is it like the kilt, just something to wear to keep from being naked?
* many years ago, I heard someone refer to a certain tie as being "er a little Flow Pow" i.e., Flower Power-y. That, too can be good or bad, I guess.
