Hmmm, does that mean we should wear a Dixie Cup with the Navy tartan? ;) Good looking hat, BTW.

Not me, my Dixie cup days are over, perhaps a WWII vintage Navy flat hat, looks a lot like a Tam.

    So are mine, thank you.

My kilt does duty for all occasions, and my hat goes along with the occasion. I once went to a family picnic at the beach wearing sandals, tee shirt, and a GI boonie hat. I don't care for baseball hats under any conditions unless I'm wearing one to an event where the same hat is worn by most everyone, such as a shipmate's reunion, and not with a kilt. That's just me. However, a tweed walking or country hat will look good and keep your head warm. One of those is my general purpose winter hat.

Sometimes a flat cap (this one is white linen) is perfect for the occasion!

With mine, I generally wear an all black Balmoral with a USMC clan crest - depending on the rest of my outfit, a nice USMC or Desert Storm ball cap works. I'm trying to get comfortable with a tweed driving cap (I guess some folks call it a flat hat?) but that is still outside my comfort zone

I normally wear a Caubeen, Balmoral, or Glengarrie with a either just an EGA, EGA Clan Badge, or my Davidson Clan badge. I have seen a garrison cap worn with the kilt, but to my eye it looks a little peculiar.

What got to me was the number of band members that went a step farther and shed the kilt while off-duty. I understand it for travel to have on dress shirt, tie, vest, hose, flashes, and put the kilt on at the venue, but there seemed to be lots walking around after they finished their performances in that manner. Shorts with waistcoat and flashes just seemed odd.
My ten year old did that. He had on his ghillies with hose and the sgian dubh with athletic shorts and a white t-shirt. No baseball cap though! I didn't argue. He was a good sport all day in the uniform and we didn't even play.

I agree that it looked weird.

Although on the way there he wore the uniform kilt and when we were all getting into the car I barked at him to run his hand under his kilt so he didn't get the pleats all wrinkled on the ride there and he said, "Dad! I know."

    Made me proud.

It was nice meeting you also, crsbryan.
