I'm just up the road in Matlock, Derbyshire and also wear a kilt out and about casually, currently kilted every day, no issues, few comments and no negatives. Last time I was in Scotland, wore my kilt the whole time, same story. I trust it will be the same when I visit again at the end of this month.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Perhaps I misjudged. I've had some negative experiences with native Scots (not here, obviously--in the real world) with regard to the wearing of Highland clothing. Thank you for the reassurance. I'll take my kilt when I visit. Luckily I am not the sort to behave like a ned (we call them 'bros' in California) in any way, shape, or form. That probably helps.

David, probably to do with the topic-that-shan't-be-discussed.

    (Hijack ended.)
I'm really sorry that you have had negative experiences in the past. There is something called the 'Scottish cringe' which might go some way to explaining it.

I've definitely seen more kilts around lately, especially on younger men, hopefully it's a trend which will continue.

Again, I can only apologise for the rudeness and ignorance of a small minority of my countrymen and sincerely hope that you have a more positive and enjoyable experience next time.

I often pass through Matlock Bath on a Sunday on my pushbike, so not usually kilted, but if you see someone wearing an Anderson Tartan top and full face helmet, that will be me. I'll keep my eyes open, you should not be difficult to miss. What bike do you have?

I wear a kilt several days a week here in Scotland and don't have any difficulties.

:opening my mouth, inserting my foot:

I haven't met any X-Markers outside the virtual realm. I look forward to doing so, however. Norbo, not that I'm complaining (let me be very clear) but there was some mention made about a bike...

Calgacus (and Hector, Peter, and Alex, too), thank you for the sentiment expressed but you are not to be held accountable for the rudeness of others. You are a gentleman and I very much enjoy your posts.
