I'm partway through "The Count of Monte Cristo"(Dumas) which I'd never read. Just finished "Anansi Boys"(Neal Gaiman) which is a fun comedy/fantasy. There have also been a couple of mysteries. And then there are the magazines that appear on the doorstep, with "WoodenBoat" being the most thoroughly devoured.
I travel for work, and I'm finding that an e-reader is a nice tool to reduce the bulk and weight of the books I tend to carry. I've got a Kobo Glo -- very similar to a Kindle Paperwhite -- and find it much easier on the eyes than reading on a tablet for long periods.

'Before Scotland' - by Alistair Moffat.
It must be about the tenth or twelfth book I've read that was written by Moffat. Highly recommended.
I've got another of his books in the office just now which I started a few days ago - 'The British - A Genetic Journey'

I enjoy Alistair Moffat's books too. I just saw that he has a new one out about the battle of Bannockburn.

I've just finished his book on Bannockburn.
In my opinion, it was not one of his better books.
It basically covered much of what has been well written elsewhere.
His better ones include, 'The Faded Map' and the 'Sea Kingdoms'. Have to confess that I even enjoyed 'Arthur and the Lost Kingdoms'.
I'm wanting to read his book, 'The Highland Clans', but unfortunately it's not available for Kobo e-readers.

Recently, finished "In Freedom's Cause" by G.A. Henty and moved on to "Under Drake's Flag", also by Henty. I know they are kids books but I didn't read when I was a kid and now I'm trying to catch up. Also, I'm in the middle of "The Federalist Papers: The Original Argument for the US Constitution" by Glenn Beck.

In addition to several old (late 1800s-early 1900s) books on engraving technique, for my 'me time' I'm still working through the Chaoisum collection of Lovecraft-inspired fiction.
I'm just wrapping up the "The Klarkash-Ton Cycle" Clark Ashton Smith's mythos works, and getting ready to dive into "The Dunwich Cycle". Nothing like a good horror story on a stormy summer night.

I'm reading Behind Closed Doors, which is a "secret" history of Stalin's treaties with Nazi Germany and with the US.

I also have a real problem with having too many books (in physical form) already. lol I have made myself donate and give away a lot of my collection though to make room and I find that I usually now buy Kindle books because 1) no clutter, 2) I can pull it up and read it wherever I am so I always have my collection with me to refer to and enjoy (which is particularly great when I'm waiting somewhere or wanting to refer to information,) 3) I can't damage it! and 4) I have my Mom set up to share my Amazon account so any book I buy she can read as well for no extra charge and 5) last but not least, many Kindle books are free or 99 cents or at least $5 and under. I will check out his books when I am on Kindle next!

P.S. For any non-Americans out there considering going Kindle, I definitely recommend you sign up under Amazon.com and not the Amazon for your country. I have my collection on Amazon.com because books are usually cheaper and you don't have the limitations of "sorry this book is not available in your region" to worry about.
That's how I read all my books these days. If you have a Kindle and iPad, you can download to both of them at price of one. I believe if you don't have a Kindle you can download the Kindle app on your mobile device.

Did you mean Cannery Row? Say "hi" to Mack and the boys.
I'm revisiting Hawthorne - finished "The Marble Faun" and "The Scarlet Letter" and am reading "The House of the Seven Gables". They are even better than I remembered.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.
