    Feedback on this Tartan

Sharpshooting welcome. Looking forward to feedback from the keen tartan eyes on board here.

The plan is for a tartan to be woven probably in tweed for Christmas season wear.

How big is the sett size, because if it's the normal 6-8" you're going to lose a LOT of detail in the background red/green intersections.

You also might want to consult with your weavers as to the number of colour changes across a single repeat, I believe that many weavers have a limit/upcharge beyond a certain number.
The other thought I have is that the double white stripe stands out MUCH more than the rest of the sett. I'm sure the triple red is meant to balance the white/green out, but it really doesn't.

I like the concept, but it might need a larger field of a single colour- maybe the dark green?

If you look at Tartans enough what you will see is that the most pleasing designs start with a single background color. They then layer stripes on top of the background.

A few colors in larger blocks also is more pleasing to most people over one with lots of stripes and small blocks.

Great feedback, thanks Steve and Scott. Will adjust with those thoughts in mind.

I was working that out just as I saw your post come thru. Don't know how I checked that. Thanks.

dunno what software you're using, but if you flip the thin red and green lines on the right and bottom that would make it symmetrical.

Also, depending on how big the sett is, those thin lines may get a little lost. Could you do one up where those two-thread red, green, and white are 4 instead? That really thin look may be exactly what you're going for - and it does look good - I'm just concerned about how they'd look on the smaller end of the sett size.

The sett is right at 7", thanks for the feedback. One has to keep in mind that the digital image is a rather small "swatch" and keep scale in the right perspective.
