As it was just a test ride I can get behind this, the first 15 years or so of riding a motorcycle I wore a leather jacket, helmet, jeans, boots and most of time gloves. I got tired of sweating to death and so in the summer would ride in a t-shirt and leather vest for really hot days. The only thing that would bother me about this is I find the idea of exposed legs that close to a hot engine just a bit of a bridge too far for me. I've been hit with rocks, June bugs, bees and even a cigarette to exposed skin while riding heck I was stung 3 times in a summer while riding. I've also been in more than a few accidents over the years as people generally do not see motorcycles, It's all about acceptable risk.

About ten years ago I bought a Ducati 600SS. I bought it and rode it home late at night. As I was riding home through some woods, a pheasant flew out from the trees. It missed the fairing (lucky), missed my face (lucky), but didn't miss me entirely (unlucky). I caught it square on the neck and chest at about 70mph. It hurt a bit, and killed the pheasant, which fell dead onto the petrol tank, but it would have been a whole lot worse if it had hit me in the face. I always wore a full-face helmet and full leathers.

But on the plus side you had dinner to take home for the wife to cook up so not a total loss.
Ive had beetles and small stones hit my hands helmet and legs before I must confess most rides I do are fully leatherd up now. even a big bug on the hands can bloody heart at 110 down the road. Id hate to think about the pain if something hit it on my legs in a kilt. However Just for a laugh during the summer I intend to go to a massive bike meeting in Derbyshire a place called matlock its on every Sunday with 1000's going on a hot day and ill be pulling over just out side of town and dong the kilt from my tank bag just to ride in to see people reactions.

Nice bike.....
It sounds like you ended up with the excitement of riding the bike home, and dinner too, roast pheasant !!
To go another level though, while riding in AZ, in police uniform coming home from work on my personal bike, I had a truck pass me and throw out his window, at just the right angle, a Jim Beam bottle, hitting me in my full face helmet right wear I had it open a crack for ventilation! It broke, slivers in my face but not eyes, but you know how facial cuts bleed. I was blinded by the blood, stayed cool, slowed down listening to the pavement, and onto the gravel roadside coming to a safe stop. I heard a car screech to a stop behind me, pull in, and a guy came running up to me still sitting on the bike. I eased my helmet off, and all I could hear him say is " Oh Sh*t buddy" as blood streamed down my face. He almost passed out, but not me. Unfortunately, in all the confusion, he failed to get the guys license plate number.
So, you "receive" all kinds of flying stuff hit you while on a bike, dress accordingly.

The short answer is no. But there are times and places where unsuitable headwear are more than a good idea when wearing the kilt.
An example!
