Check out the Birkenstock hiking boots. The look and protection of a hiking boot, including water proof lining in the pair I have, and the comfort of the Birkenstock footbed. As an added plus they look very different from anything else on the market.

    Blew out my flip-flop
    Stepped on a pop top
Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home.
But, there's booze in the blend
    And, soon it will surrender
That frozen concoction that helps me hang on........

i agree in theory completely with ham: best looking shoewear are boots or heavy looking shoes to keep balance. in my very beginning i only wore those kind.
no discussion: they look better then light shoes, snadals and for sure flips.
but in summer there are really a bit to hot, and concerning people: they were more wondering on heavy boots than on my kilt. i turned wearing whatever i liked in my kilt, even if it don t looks as good as my favotite heavy shoes.
at least we should not establish to much rules, as this would scare other poeple to wear teh kilt.

I've seen a lot of references towards Doc Marten's shoes. I'm curious what style is most appropriate for a tartan kilt. I went to their web site, and found so many to choose from.

From what I gather here, it's pretty much personal taste, but I guess I'm curious for those that wear Doc Marten's, what style do you wear?

Anything. From the Chukka to the classic 8 eyelet boot, to the lounge loafers, all DMs look fabu. Get what ever pleases your eye on the outside, inside is all that really matter. Not much is more comfortable then a good pair of DMs. Nice wide comfy footwear, with room for toes to wiggle and feet to breathe a bit. Owned several types of boots in my life, and I will always return to DMs. Although my pair of White's boots was darn good. I was turned on to DMs because I used to be on my feet for 20 hours a day. Didn't care about being fashionable, or fitting in, or being cool. I was working in places that are pretty much hell on earth, kitchens, one in particular had a coal fired oven, and it was a hot rancid hell. But at least my feet were comfortable.

A coal-fired oven! Good God! You were working in hell! The most comfortable footwear that I have ever had was a pair of paratrooper boots I purchased from the local military surplus. Great looking boots that were already broken-in! Oh, yeah, an added plus was that they go great with the kilt.

Sandals go well with utilikilts, and sometimes I wear them with my great kilt (the leather goes well with the rather "earthy" plaid). If yours clash, perhaps it's time for new sandals or a new kilt.

Sandals and Kilts on the river

Hi, new to the group, just posted a pic in my gallery that shows a UK original and Teva Sandals. Title is Lees Ferry (nope, the locals don't use an apostrophe).

Tevas were invented on the Colorado River, Kilts are perfect river attire, a great combo for comfort.

    I'm afraid I'm guilty

Hamish forgive me! We were on the way to swim with the dolphins and I did change into 'correct' foot attire when we returned to clean up...I must also confess....I wore swim trunks under he kilt to save time....forgive me
