Gentlemen; as someone who makes kilts, I just have to add my two cents....
Sometimes the bigger sett does look better across the aprons (than lots of repeated small setts) But...a big sett means either more tartan for you to buy and deeper pleats to reproduce exactly. The kilt maker can "Cheat a pleat" which means we rob Peter to pay Paul, to get the most out of your fabric....some pleats might be 14" some 3". Most of you wouldn't know the difference but if you are on this site ; you might want to know. If you gave this tartan to three different kiltmakers, chances are you would get three different pleating options.
