It is NOT a place for kilt companies to get free advertising at Hank's expense! That's cheap and lazy!!!
I dunno Jimmy, I rather saw those forums as being of benefit to members here, to learn more about various kilts and kiltmakers and to share experiences after having bought such a kilt.

I understand the reasons for the forums to be merged, but I didn't see it as cheap and lazy for anyone.

Perhaps I have a bit of an anachistic streak, but I really don't want to see rules get too strict.

I liked the Idea but I can see that this is just as good.
I felt like the kilt makers that were on there were great and they seem'd small town enough and whatnot to keep a very personal feeling.
I would like to see that kilt makers maybe get a Sticky thred or something, and they could have a place to get answers and whatnot. but i can also understand that keeping up and patroling the threads can take up massive amounts of time.
but haveing a place to talk about a specific product is a nice thing but as this place gets bigger and bigger each kilt maker having a sticky thread, would possibly become a full page of stickys but i do miss it. I am sure I will love it this way too.

    My view

I have mentioned a certain kilt company enough by now, so I'll leave this as an annoymous company now. But if this company had been in a forum such as this one, I could have posted messages, and perhaps straightened out the problems without nearly as much trouble and hard feelings. I think ant reputable compny (as all who post here seem to be) would be willing to use this as a contact point for customer service issues. I also see nothing wrong with mentioning a new product on occasion, particularily when someone asks them.

I dont have any probs with companies announcing new products or updates. As a matter of fact I encourage it.

I just couldnt let some folks have their own forum and others not have one. It is just me trying to be as impartial as I can (especially since I have been accused of being partial to some over others).

Hank, time to thank you for giving us this place to meet. Often times we enter fora and forget about people like Administrators and Mods. Will you have one on me?

The only thing that was nice about the separate sections was that if you wanted info specifically about Brand _____ kilts, you could drive right to it. Having the kiltmakers' URLs right there was nice too. (OK, so I am lazy )

This new arrangement will work and work well. As soon as we understand that there are times we must accept change, that is!

    Thanks again!

    Peace,
    Mike

From my point of view you have always run a 'clean' house and I've never had a problem with your 'house rules'.

    Thanks again for the forum.

while xmarks is solely owned by a singular person, it is the responsibility of that owner to do as he or she fits. it is a couragous effort hank makes in just providing access for a world-wide, oftime eccentric, bunch of people to meet and exchange ideas. it is not an inexpensive endeavour.

in consolidating kiltmakers, xmarks has effectively lowered it's probability of income, yet effectively enhanced the exchange of community discussion. however, in this shift of priorities, xmarks will not only gain the respect of venues, but also the respect of outlets.

each of us have a favorite kiltmaker based upon personal experience. each of us have the ability to influence the purchase decision of every member and non-member based upon our own experiences.

i whole-heartedly agree with the adjustment and find no fault in doing so. all of us have done enough in researching kilts to know what we are talking about and do not require input from advertisers to make up our minds. the deliberate act of wearing a kilt is a hallowed act and not a passing fancy. all of us who frequent this board hold every other member in high regard, especially those who have the where-with-all to design, build and distribute kilts.

what i find especially appealing is an open forum where both buyer and seller can exhange ideas, both buyer and seller respect each other and both buyer and seller benefit from mutual correspondance.

you could not have made a better move, hank.
