If I was starting out and wanted to wear kilts all the time - I would take the cheaper kilts, then when i can afford it, get a decent kilt for 'best'.

To me, kilts are to be worn all the time, who is crazy enough to wear a $600 to work every day?

As the man says, kilts are garments, not costumes! that says it all.

but the one contemporary is going to be far more valuable than the SportKilts, which you're not likely to wear all that much.
I do agree sort of. I have five UKs and two SportKilts, which are in my opinion are very confortable. I wear the SportKilts far more then the UKs. The SportKilts I wear around the house and the UKs any where away from the house.

I think as I already own a Traditional 8 yarder from HR. I'd go for the contemporaries if they were tartan.

But my preferance would be somthing like a Bear, USAK or a Stillwater or a Canada or a Kinloch Anderson, Kiltstore.Irish kilt net, Scots kilt net,

you name it If its a nice Tartan I'll wear it

I feel that both have advantages. I like both, however it is like wearing a suit or jeans (if I can remember) they both need to be had. If I had to dress up more, the traditional would get more attention with my finances, but if it were a casual life I was living, definetly the casual would be the one to go for. It has come down to what has been said earlier on this thread, it all depends on my mood! Sorry that I could not be more specific.

Why can't I choose 1 hand sewn and several contemporaries? My wife doesn't know it could have been an either/or question. Don't you go telling her or I'll be in real trouble!!

Hand sewn traditional... Contemporary kilts have there place for sure but a good hand sewn traditional has a weight, swing, feel, and look that's well worth the investment.

I agree with Blu and the others that chose the traditional. It's harder to come up with a large lump sum than several smaller sums over time.

I happened to have enough money available for a traditional when I first got serious about a kilt. If I had decided on a contemporary kilt, the rest of that money would be gone by now. While Graham is right that one would be crazy to do messy work in an expensive traditional kilt, a traditional does not have to be reserved for weddings, etc. I wear mine as often as my Utilikilt.

That way, you'll have an incredible piece of workmanship & tradition, and it will be much easier to save up for a contemporary or casual kilt when you feel like getting another one.

i wear my casulas most, an am really in love with tartan. but i think that the kilt will make his way to a mens garment (in mass style i mean) by the several modern, sportkilts. and thats nott only a thing of money, cause for UKs price u get also nice casuals.
