“Yet still the blood is strong, the heart is Highland, And we, in dreams, behold the Hebrides.” - The Canadian Boat Song.
Welcome. I too am new and I made my first kilt using the X-Kilt instructions. For material, I used a Bull Denim and it worked great. I have the heavy duty singer machine and it sewed it without trouble. Some of the instructions were a little confusing for me, but I figured it out with a little online research and using the book mentioned above, (The Art of Kiltmaking and the box pleat download). You you wind up needing a little help, shoot me a message and I will be happy to assist.
On another note, where are you from in Oklahoma? I was raised in Bartlesville and had a great time there. Left in '79 when I joined the Air Force but still have a lot of fond memories and family all over the state.
Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. Wool kilt in a tartan you find good looking in the traditional style using buckles on the sides. 8 yards or so.
