You could not go wrong with Freedom Kilts or USA Kilts, either of whom can source a fabric to meet your needs and budget. I suggest you get in touch with Steve at FK (or Rocky at USAK), design the Farmer Jones Tweed Jacket of your dreams, and then your donor can just ask for that!

Herringbone is a personal choice, and yes it will work with a myriad of tartans

I feel the same way, the only alterations I would consider is shortening sleeves.

Honestly I did not see that the first jacket was Harris Tweed, I would still look for a Harris Tweed that was cut more traditionally.

Thank you. Freedom Kilts does not yet list jackets. USA Kilts involves an additional country in this transaction. Last time this happened I was able to persuade them to allow me to have a kilt made over here, rather than have it shipped from Scotland. Though I have a feeling that they would prefer to send the jacket.

So are you saying you want to purchase only from a Canadian company?
Keltoi sells jackets in a few different styles, although their tweed choices seem fairly limited. But it couldn't hurt to contact John Hart and ask if you might be able to commission a jacket with a tweed that's not listed.

No not quite. They would prefer it was sourced in, and sent from the UK, but in the past I have persuaded them to allow me to have things made in Canada, which is where I live. I don't want to get into the duty, handling and import charges thing to receive them, if they come from a company in the US.

If your mother is purchasing this and willing to kit you out in fine gentlemanly style with a robust budget, just have one made by Kinloch Anderson or House of Labhran in the tweed of your choosing and have them send it over. As long as your measurements are accurate, you can't lose. You can specify the type of pocket flaps, epaulettes and cuffs you prefer.

Exactly! This is precisely what I would do, and be done with it.

I do agree with Nathan and Kyle however another thought is to go to Burnetts and Struth in Barrie which is the Canadian distributor for Lochcarron.

That's the first thing I thought of, when a preference for a Canadian firm was mentioned. You can't go wrong with Burnetts and Struth, I don't think.

I'm saving up for this jacket/waistcoat combination from Scotweb
http://www.scotweb.co.uk/products/cr...-and-vest-men/
I like the cut and the fact that it has no cuffs and epaulettes. I particularly like the waistcoat.
Like you, I'm considering what tweed (except grey) goes well with the tartan I wear (MacLeod weathered and MacLeod modern): I guess brown, blue and green all fit, but at the moment I'm drawn to the green. I've started to consider brown again.
