I would like to adjust that I had no intention to doubt the scottish education system!
My remark was just a humorous sign of astonishment.
(I often heard about the typical british humor...a phantom?
)
But as the - I hope also in Scotland - well known german poet (we usually call him Dichterfürst) Johann Wolfgang von Goethe said:"It is not important to have a good thought for the first time but to think it again and again" (Hope my translation is not too poor...sorry, the german education system...)
But to be serious again there are some negative mechanisms in the thinking concerning tradition - by the way all over the world - which can be and have to be diguised and declined. McKinnon thinks very logical and makes the only possible conlusions in my opinion.
Generosity and serenity are good mentors in any case.
And after all wearing the kilt means acknowledge scottish tradition in the most obvious way. It would be pity to get the feeling the "natives" could consider us non-Scots unworthy to do so.
[WARNING: I tend to be humorous also in serious matters!!!]
