Last Sunday my wife and I visited Sudbury Hall, which is not far from Ashbourne in Derbyshire. Anyone thinking of visiting the Ashbourne Highland Gathering in future years should bear it in mind for a visit at the same time. It has a Museum of Childhood, which although it does have items from the 1800's, also contained many items from our childhood which ages one somewhat!
Originally constructed by George Vernonit is particularly noted for its ceilings,
staircase
paintings, this one actually painted on the plaster
wood carving by Grinling Gibbons
and Long Gallery which with other areas has appeared in film and television productions
and contains some interesting exhibits
