Sinclair Ancient Colors--Clarification Please
I am suddenly on a weathered and ancient tartan binge (blame it on the fact that Autumn is not too far away). I just bought my latest kilt in MacKenzie Weathered, which I love, Love, LOVE--talk about adding some mileage to one's (Highland) wardrobe--and am now itching to pull the trigger on one of these:

With apologies to ASinclair, I'm wanting this one primarily because of what is clearly-according to the merchant's sample image--the bright orange color in the tartan. But is that actually bright orange or, as it appears in samples I've seen elsewhere online, more of a maroon-ish red or claret? Many thanks, gentlemen, for your guidance.

The red in the Sinclair Hunting Ancient (or Old Colours palette) is normally orange. As in my kilt => 100_2654.JPG

This is a kilt in the Ancient color scheme, where red is normally woven as orange. The only way to know for sure, though, the particular shade of orange is to request a swatch of this specific fabric.
Maroon/cranberry is the shade used for weaving red in the Muted and Weathered color schemes.
As regards wool kilt fabric, House of Edgar uses a brighter orange than Locharron, which uses more of a rusty orange color- just in case you're considering upgrading to a wool kilt.

That explains the apparent variation(s) I've noted. Bright orange or rusty orange would both suit me equally. Many Thanks to you as well, David!

At the risk of sounding like a broken recrd, this thread would be more appropriate in 'The Tartan Place'.
Interesting colouration. If the pictMoure is reasonably accurate then the green in this material is not in the range normally considered as Old or Ancient colours but rather the Modern ange whereas the blue and red belong in the former. This is not a criticism and is actually more in keeping with the traditional use of natural dyes where colours were generally balanced to compliment each other rather than being of a single hue.
