Thanks ever so much. Projects like this are really what keep me excited and engaged. I'm always forced to wonder what happened to the originals. Was it discarded? Still stuffed into a trunk in some attic somewhere, mouldering away? How do these things become lost to time? Doubly so the skills- Why were things like this no longer made?

How does something like this vanish from the world? What happened to it's maker?

I hate to see things disappear, especially well crafted things.

It might be that, but more likely it's the fact that I barely leave the workshop.

Fear not, Scott. You create family heirlooms, amazingly beautiful original works of Art that will stand the test of time across the generations. It is a distinct privilege and an honour to own one of your Masterpieces. The path for mine, once I leave this mortal coil, is already well established within the family. No Die, they are hand cut using a jeweler's saw and finished with files. Having dies made for each individual project would be immensely expensive and time consuming (not that sawing all those hearts out wasn't time consuming )

I know what you mean about time consuming. When I did my wedding sporran I cut a fancy profile on the cantle and it did take quite a lot of cutting, grinding and filing to get it done. One thing that might help with the layout would be to make a drill pattern template of the heart in a piece of steel. It would take out some of the measuring and make repeating consistency of the feature a little easier. Plus, once you have it you can use it on future pieces.
