Wow, OC Richard, that's some detailed knowledge! What kind of sources are you using for all that info, apart from the pictures you posted?

I'm also impressed with @OC Richard. He's a valuable resource around these parts.

Thanks guys! For whatever reason I got obsessed with the bagpipes and with the Highland regiments back in the 1970s and my interest has never waned. For starters here are the books I have sitting right here at the moment: Uniform of the Scottish Infantry 1740 to 1900 (Scottish United Services Museum) Scottish Regiments and Uniforms 1660-1914 by AH Bowling The Scottish Regiments by Ted Nevill The Scottish Soldier by Stephen Wood The 51st Highland Division At War by Roderick Grant The Uniforms & History of the Scottish Regiments by R Money Barnes Then there are the Osprey Publications books. The texts are very informative; the illustrations vary from excellent to ludicrous. My detailed review is here http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-errors-79267/ The books to hand are: Queen Victoria's Highlanders by Stuart Reid Wellington's Highlanders by Stuart Reid Scottish Units in the World Wars by Mike Chappell (by far the best of the Osprey writers/illustrators) The British Army 1965-1980 by Major DG Smith British Battledress 1937-1961 by Brian Jewell (illustrated by the excellent Mike Chappell) The Canadian Army At War by Mike Chappell British Territorial Units 1914-1918 by Ray Westlake (illustrated by Mike Chappell) plus various copies of Regiment Magazine and programmes from all North American tours by Scottish bands 1960-present.

Pity you didn't have older tour magazines. My father toured Canada and USA for three+ months with the Pipes & Drums of the 1st Bn. Scots Guards in 1958. I'd love to have seen the tour magazine/pamphlet....if there was one. This photo was taken then:- http://schoolofpiping.com/photo_albu...hn-abbott.html
Sorry the oldest one I have is The Cameron Highlanders 1960 North American tour. I just now checked Ebay. Here it is! http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Regiment...item20d511ff41 How cool that your father is in there! That programme would be a great memento to have.

Will do, thanks. I have some photos of the Scots Guards pipers in plain clothes as well from their 1958 tour but that's about it. I recall being told that they did performances in over 100 cities in Canada and USA during the three months.
