Thanks guys!
For whatever reason I got obsessed with the bagpipes and with the Highland regiments back in the 1970s and my interest has never waned.
For starters here are the books I have sitting right here at the moment:
Uniform of the Scottish Infantry 1740 to 1900 (Scottish United Services Museum)
Scottish Regiments and Uniforms 1660-1914 by AH Bowling
The Scottish Regiments by Ted Nevill
The Scottish Soldier by Stephen Wood
The 51st Highland Division At War by Roderick Grant
The Uniforms & History of the Scottish Regiments by R Money Barnes
Then there are the Osprey Publications books. The texts are very informative; the illustrations vary from excellent to ludicrous.
My detailed review is here http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...-errors-79267/
The books to hand are:
Queen Victoria's Highlanders by Stuart Reid
Wellington's Highlanders by Stuart Reid
Scottish Units in the World Wars by Mike Chappell (by far the best of the Osprey writers/illustrators)
The British Army 1965-1980 by Major DG Smith
British Battledress 1937-1961 by Brian Jewell (illustrated by the excellent Mike Chappell)
The Canadian Army At War by Mike Chappell
British Territorial Units 1914-1918 by Ray Westlake (illustrated by Mike Chappell)
plus various copies of Regiment Magazine and programmes from all North American tours by Scottish bands 1960-present.
