I am sitting in front of my computer in my kilt because I have been out for some food and a show at the Edinburgh Fringe. Last night I wore my kilt to dinner and then to the Tattoo. I saved Ģ2 as I did not have to hire a cushion.

Did anyone notice or say anything? Well apart from one piece of light hearted banter - no! I did notice one or two glances. Why - because they were pretty ladies and I was doing some glancing of my own!

I hope this small contribution helps get the thread back on track!

My wife and daughter were there last night and loved it. Wish I could have been there. Next year for sure.

Leaving today for another week's camping, kilted, in southern Scotland. Should be interesting, gales are forecast.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!

Having been in Scotland the last two weeks I must say there were almost no kilts (Glasgow, Inverness).
I saw just one older guy wearing the kilt privately. And a guy in the Macpherson Museum.
All others were lads working in a kilt/souvenir shop or guides.

Coming to Amsterdam on my way back I saw a group of young guys - about 8 or 10 - wearing kilts speaking with a clear scottish accent... so if you are considered being a tourist when wearing a kilt scots go to Holland where they can wear kilts and be tourists....

Well, since we are drifting off kilts and onto tourists, I believe my wife can top all. She grew up in Orlando and, as a teenager, was a 'slave to the Mouse'. The locals calls them "DamnYankee tourists". That is DamnYankee, one word, never separated. Most of these tourists are hot, tired and have spent a lot of money to wait in long lines. This is a reason, not an excuse.

What is ironic is she loves it here in New England. But then, most New Englanders are not hot, tired and broke at home.

Now to return to your regular scheduled programming...

I wear a kilt because I enjoy doing so. My choice of kilts is based on personal history and comfort and not family concerns. At least not at present. I have not been to Scotland (my daughter has) but hope to do so soon. When I do I will most likely wear my kilt. Not to make any point, but because I like wearing it and my wife likes seeing me in it. Based on my daughter's experience and what I read here, I would expect a warm and polite welcome. But then again, I hope I have long ago learned to not be a DamnYankee tourist.
