Auction for A framed fragment of Prince Charles Edward Stuart's tartan

This fragment of the so-called Moyhall Plaid is going up the hammer on Weds. The guide price is probably pretty accuate. Regrettably it's beyond my means although having spent nearly 20 years studying various fragments of the original and copies made in 1820 I would love to get my hands on it for a while.

    Estimated at £500-800.

Having studied some higher-res pictures my conclusion is that this is a piece of one of the copies made in the early 1800s.

Apparently there was a telephone bidding war. It sold for £4000.

After 11 attempts to register here under different names, we now have enough evidence to confirm that this is again Steven Aikens of Jasper AL. This time using an IP proxy in an attempt to hide his real location.

    Excellent point.

I guess that's because the losing side's kit gets detroyed, melted down, reused etc and so fewer pieces survive.
