    Pokemon Sporran

I need a little help. My wife is an avid fan of Japanese animation (anime), and every year she hauls me off to a convention that is near by. She is very much into dressing up for it. Generally, since I'm not really a fan of anime, I just use it as an excuse to show off my parade armor. However, for this next convention she said that she wants me to wear something more relevant to the theme. So I have decided to dress as a highland pokemon hunter. I am going to make a kilt pin that resembles the forepaw of some pokemon, and use other bits to dress out my normal highland attire. The bigger project that I have in mind for this is a full mask pokemon sporran. I was planning on using a plush toy or pillow pet for the "pelt" and head. Where I need help is in the dimensions and shaping. Does anyone know the approximate dimensions of an average full mask sporran? Also what is the best shape for it? I don't actually care for the full mask variety, but I figure this will make for a standout component to the costume. Any help would be appreciated and who knows; it might make the ugliest sporran thread.

Dear Sir Didymous, How does one respond to an inquiry where I am clueless? I'm not sure that I can suggest the best way to mount such an elusive creature as a Pokémon and fashion a sporran from its pelt. Now if you had asked about an Armadillo I have an example of a Texan handbag to show. I'll get back to you with photos if interested.

Somebody has previously posted instructions for making a cookie monster muppet sporran. You might want to find that and follow the steps.

Thanks for the link. However, I have a particular pokemon in mind. I am planning on using a Pikachu. Where this becomes an issue is that it has stripes on it's back and I would like them to be visible on the front of the bag. If I end up going with a different variety of pokemon, those instructions will be most helpful.

Sir Didymous, I feel for you. My wife is also an avid anime fan. So far, I have been successful in resisting her invitations to the convention. It helps that I work most Saturdays.

As far as the size goes, just make it as wide as the face of the Pokémon (I'm thinking Pikachu - however you spell it). Go over to the local Wally-World and pick out a size that suits you.

In that Pikachu is the beloved side kick of the protagonist Ash:
    1) Does on wear the head of the hero in public other than on a pike?
    2) Would the head of a "dark" defeated pokemon be more appropriate?
    3) Since the identified "catch all" of the cartoon is a pokeball would a pokeball sporran gain a chuckle?

    In answer to the questions:
    1) If I were attending in my medieval armor I would use a pike if I could. However the convention rules disallow the use of any weaponry (stopping there to keep the thread open).
    2) I had considered other varieties of pokemon (including the various evee forms, vulpix, and ninetails), but finding the needed size in some of them is cost restrictive. I won't pay more for a plush toy to make a sporran from than I would for a nice sporran. Also, I feel that the more recognizable pickachu will have a greater impact.
    3) The pokeball sporran would be an okay idea if I weren't trying to make my wife regret insisting that I dress for the theme. I could then claim to be a "trainer". But the hunter is something to be despised. In keeping with the theme of the show (which my wife has watched with me in the room enough to make ignoring it impossible), people who kill these creatures are evil. that being said this character will be proud of what he is. I find the "hunters are evil" aspect annoying in a show about animal fighting and intend to make said statement with this character. Besides, I will be using a pokeball as a cap badge.

Holy Smokes! My heart goes out to ALL of Y'all. I thought I had it bad because my wife was an Aubarn fan when I met her. (Thankfully, she has fully recovered).
