    Inverness Kilt Society

I just did a search of thread titles on XMarks and didn't see a thread on the Inverness Kilt Society.

In The Graphic, 9 August 1913, there is an article about the kilt (Is the Kilt in Danger?) wherein is mentioned

The Inverness Kilt Society, aided by Lord Lovat, Lord Seafield, The MacKintosh, and Lochiel, have just drawn up rules for the correct wearing of the Highland costume.

...Hose are to be worn one inch higher than the centre of the calf.

...There should be about the width of a hand between the top of the hose and the bottom of the kilt
    .

The main point of the article is that the kilt is losing popularity in the Highland battalions due to having too much cloth, but mainly because of the ancillary things such as spats, hosetops, and the hair sporran. The article calls for the introduction into the army of long plain hose and leather sporrans (which of course was done).

    Here it is

I Googled this Inverness Kilt Society and only came up with this article in The Glasgow Herald 16 July 1932

I see many parallels to the XMTS forum. Including adding photographs of the Prince of Wales to its publications, aka "postings"

Thanks for sharing! I'd be very interested to read the Inverness Kilt Society's complete "rules" for wearing Highland attire.
