The master has gone to the master
Today Cape Bretoners, Scottish Canadians and fans of Celtic music the world over mourn the passing of a legendary tradition bearer, virtuoso and gentleman. Hugh Allan "Buddy" MacMaster was the uncle of Natalie MacMaster. A modest man with a deep and abiding love for his music and culture, Buddy carried hundreds of years of tradition in his fingers. He was a mentor to many young fiddlers and was a legend on the Island. The people of Judique, Inverness County, Cape Breton and his friends and family will mourn him most deeply but he will be remembered wherever Scottish fiddle music is appreciated.
Beannachd leibh, Buddy and thanks for the tunes. You, Jerry, Rita, Raylene & John Morris will be having quite a ceilidh tonight.
Suas e!

I attended one of his workshops about a decade ago. The most striking thing about him, beyond his fiddling, was his humility. Some younger musicians could do well by trying to emulate the man and the fiddler. He will be missed.

In this opinion, leaving a noble legacy and positive example is the surest way of going on to the next realm with a, "mission accomplished" in one's earthly life portfolio.
Bravo Zulu, Mr. McMaster.
