Right on. But I was thinking more in terms of 'wik-rash' prevention rather than backpacking use. I guess my question should have been, "Is the mountain kilt fabric soft and smooth enough to be worn regimental fashion under a traditional or modern kilt comfortably?"
thanx.

Sorry, couldnt resist.
You might consider underwear other than the hatefull "tighty whities" short term. That's one area you don't want to get infected!

DUCK TAPE I know it's the handymans' secret weapon but I think this would be akin to a zipper on the pain scale. ow! ow! ow! ow! ow!
Seriously though I think Bear has a good idea.

in the military when i would go on long marches.
(if you do it for fun it is hiking) I would wear pantyhose. just cut the legs off and it helps with the rubbing, and it keeps the bugs off. could try that.

Not to get all biologically preachy on you, but you might want to "spot test" Bodyglide on your penis before you use it on the whole thing, if you're still considering that. The skin of the penis is different than other skin on the body, including containing different sweat glands, and is very sensitive.
Even though Bodyglide is hypoallergenic, you might want to test it before you slather it on and run for the hills. If you did have a bad reaction to it, it could be pretty bad. Ouch!
Everyone's body composition is a little different, so you may want to see what works for you.

I don't know how I got the silly idea that the product was intended for use on that part of the body.

The website says it's okay for the "groin", but nothing specific about the genitals. I just heard a lot of horror stories about this kind of thing in Anatomy and Physiology class.

Thanks for the Bodyglide warning...didn't think of that. So, put some on the ol' fire helmet Sunday and it solved the problem...okay, I didn't go hiking Sunday either, but no chemical reaction.
Since I started using Bodyglide instead of corn starch baby powder a lot of my "skin tags" have melted away. That's nice. I love my Bodyglide, just picked up four more sticks down in Flagstaff last weekend.
Was wearing my kilt at the time, the guy at the counter sort of gave me a questioning look...just explained matter of factly that it came highly recommended on the kilt boards...he just nodded in a most accepting way.
I do like the idea of a mini helmet best
