    Sporran talk

Back in November last year I was asked (read 'told') if I would do a talk on sporrans for the Harrow & District Caledonian Society.

After a few chats with Artificer I gave my talk earlier this year.

I took examples of the sporrans me and my boys have, did lamis of the various types of sporrans available including some historical ones and some of the modern monstrosities, took my tools and talked about the history of the sporran - some of it rather tongue in cheek, did a quick demo on sporran making and then took questions from the 20-30 people there (the biggest attendance we'd had for a craft session).

I have to admit I was a bit nervous as I hadn't done a talk like this before, but the crowd were enthusiastic and interested and my session over-ran by about half an hour due to the questions.

All-in-all, it was a great session that went down well. Just have to see how many more such talks I get 'asked' to do.

Sounds like it was a success indeed. Did you get pictures of the samples you took along?

I'd need to check my old PC as I'm not sure where the pics are - some I got from Chas - one of which nearly walked! A lot of the folks were very 'taken' with it shall we say...

No surprise, Martin! I'd be quite happy to see just some of the "extremes."

    Good job!

Yes that mint green sporran is one for the ages.

May I also suggest the following Pakistani horrors:

The one above reminds me of a certain 1960s Star Trek episode.

And sometimes the context makes a dodgy sporran worse:

It's a KILT! Do we really need to have every accessory have a huge COLOUR St Andrews flag pasted on it? I think we 'get' that it's Scottish.
