Scottish Wildcat Tartan - final steps
As the design process is so near to completion, I've started this thread for one simple reason; so that Paul or another person from Wildcat Haven may come in and judge which tartan is to be the actual tartan. I will ask McMurdo to put his "final" versions here, and theyoungkiltman should put his version here as well. Then we wait until, say, Tuesday next week for Paul or another representative of Wildcat Haven to show up and let us know. If they don't do so, then I will ask the mods to close this thread, and "sticky" it for a few months. The rest of the discussion will move elsewhere, as it is incompatible with XMTS Rule #10..
At this point, I suppose I should say that the "window" for new design suggestions is now closed. What we have is what we have: 3-4 final designs from McMurdo and one from theyoungkiltman. No more "tweaking" on X Marks!
Further discussion about the tartan, including the obvious aspects of it which we can't discuss here on X Marks the Scot, will be held on Facebook. I've created a "Scottish Wildcat Tartan" group on Facebook. Everyone is welcome to join. Hopefully this link will get you to the group.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1463...39029/?fref=nf
If you don't have a Facebook account and just really, really don't want to get one, then PM me about the tartan, but no more discussion of it on XMTS, please!
As the essential concept of the tartan is judged to be incompatible with X Marks the Scot rules, I will, going forward, do my best to leave XMTS out of any reference to the tartan during upcoming phases of its commercial life.
OK, please remember....tartan design commentary is now closed on XMTS. This thread is only for Paul or someone else from Wildcat Haven to come in and pick a final version. No further X Marks member design commentary is really necessary, though after Paul (or whomever) decides on the final design, "congratulatory posts" are more than welcome. My sincere thanks to everybody who positively contributed to the earlier thread, and I absolutely mean that in all seriousness.

Update to this.... I had a hurried e-mail from Paul @ wildcathaven that I just picked up, that he's incredibly busy getting stuff together for the upcoming winter season. He'll be away from the computer until next Thursday, so we won't hear from him until Thursday-Friday next week at the earliest. He is, however, VERY interested in being involved in the selection process. I ask everyones patience.
Also, mods: Paul wrote to me and said that he'd tried to register, but was waiting for a link, which he hadn't received yet. All my e-mail with him has been through the wildcat haven domain. If for some reason you don't want to approve his membership at XMTS, could one of you PM me and let me know? THNX! Alan H

Thank you Alan, here are the designs I will submit for approval from Wildcat Haven.
1.

This is my personal favourite, I have affectionately dubbed it the Jock Scot Variant. Thank you Jock for the insight on seeing the cat in wild your comments and suggestions were invaluable for the design process.
2.

Here is the version before I took Jocks suggestions many members here loved this design and I do too so I thought I would include it for consideration as well.

Alan,
Paul at Wildcat Haven did indeed register with the forum.
However he registered under the username Wildcat Haven which is his business name.
Everyone on X Marks participates here as individuals. Our members expect and deserve to know that they are speaking with a real person. Even our advertisers participate as individual people first.
Our Policy on Member Profiles, Graphics and Signature Blocks states - (bold Red added for clarity.)
Our policy on member profiles, graphics and signature blocks.
To keep our forum from looking like a bazaar we set these limits on the appearance of member profiles.
- All avatars, profile graphics, text and all content in a member’s profile are subject to all other rules.
- Usernames or avatars will not be, or contain, a Company name or Logo with the exception of paid advertisers.
- Avatars and profile graphics are limited to 100 X 100 pixels or 20,000 bytes.
- No dynamic or animated avatars or graphics are allowed.
- Signature blocks may contain up to a total of four lines of text or 500 characters. Text size may be 1 or 2.
- Fonts and Colors for text will be only those available to all members.
- Non commercial embedded links are permitted in Signature Blocks. Links are included within the text limits above. One embedded link may be to the member’s personal, non-commercial site.
- No commercial links, company names, contact information, nor any direct or indirect advertising are allowed in Member Profiles, including Signature Blocks, except those granted to paid advertisers under our Advertising Plan.
- Depending on their level of advertising, paid advertisers may be allowed their company logo as their avatar, a custom title, and one embedded link to their commercial website in their signature block.
I contacted Paul right after he registered and tried to explain this but even though I have a read receipt to my PM he has not responded.
I cannot approve his registration with this Username. If Paul will simply send me an alternate Username I would be happy to approve his registration.

Alan - thanks for starting this up. McMurdo and Theyoungkiltman - thanks for your time and creative effort. All other participants - thanks for your input, suggestions, critiques which led to outstanding tartans. I'm looking forward to seeing what Paul thinks.

Hi all,
I would just like to add my two cents that McMurdo's version 2 below, while very attractive, poses potential problems for a kiltmaker. If a person's measurements require that the pleats taper in the fell, it might not even be possible to pleat to the stripe using either of the pivots, because the taper might cause vanishing stripes and "spear points" along the edges of the pleats (this, of course, depends on the size of the pleats relative to the sett size). This is not a problem with version 1.
I strongly recommend that someone do an analysis from a kiltmaker's perspective for the near-final version using the actual sett size before committing to an order. I'd be more than happy to do that for the group, if you want.
