Switchboard.com non sequitor
OK, so I jumped on Switchboard.com to figure out if there are any sympathetic shops.
Search on British, several garages, one shop. OK
Search on Irish, and it finds 3324 restaurants.
HUH?

In my running battle with a certain Kilt company, I ran across a post somewhere on the net, detailing another guys fight with the same people. The problems with the Kilt company are not relevant to this discussion, so I'll drop that part here. This part is relevant. I emailed the gentlemen, and received a reply back. Here is the line which is relevant:
"BTW I ordered my kilt from Robert Dickie at House of Scotland in
Houston."
Maybe this place no longer exists, because I haven't seen it mentioned here or in other forums.

Kilted Houston: An Investigative Report
Thanks for the heads-up, JerMc!
I did find House of Scotland USA as well as Robertly USA Ltd. online, but neither have physical shops, it seems.
I've sent Robertly an e-mail to find out why.
House of Scotland will schedule an appointment for kilt fitting, but they spend a lot of time away
at Highland Games and even lists Staunton, VA as their founding site.
Tartan (and air-conditioned, no doubt) gypsies, they are.
No place yet to walk in and judge the goods. And as Hamish has said time and again, quality is worth paying for!
Regarding conflicts with vendors, I find it more like trench warfare, where you try something, then peek over to see if it did anything. They do the same, nobody moves. Attrition to surrender the dominant strategy. Or playing dead so the other side will go home.

This sounds very familiar. I feel like I finally won, even though I wasn't totally satisfied. But, sometimes you have to cut your losses and take what you can get.
