I actually have a rather small list that I am mulling over: Kinloch Anderson Hunting, County Armagh, and Thistle Dubh [Geoffrey (Tailor)]. If you like the purple tartans such as Spirit of Scotland and Pride of Scotland, check out the Thistle Dubh. It is my favorite of the three and comes in a variety of weights. Like all premium Geoffrey produced fabric it is teflon coated. It is neat watching water bead and roll off teflon coated worsted.

A few weeks ago, I ordered an 8 yard gent's kilt from Geoffrey in the Dark Island tartan. I really thought about it and decided to break down and buy a black barathea formal jacket to have in the closet; to that end I ordered a GT Doublet without epaulets. I am not one to wear a lacy jabot and ruffled cuffs, so I plan to instead wear the jacket with a high banded or Mandarin collared dress shirt and button cover. When quizzed on this variation of Highland Dress, the folks from Geoffrey thought that this would look fine. Everything should make it to me before the Holidays, so I will be sure to let you know.

Of the three tartans that I mentioned in my opening sentence, all but the County Armagh are exclusive to a particular supplier. I am debating purchasing a kilt made from this tartan from kiltstore.net and purportedly have a swatch of this on its way to me.

Aside from Ham, I am curious to know if anyone here has had experience with our sponsor in regard to their kilts?

    Dude... interesting question.

Irish National Tartan for obvious reasons in a Traditional hand-sewn only.

Maple Leaf Tartan since half my family is born and raised there, and made by Bear since he's in the Great White North.

Cape Breton since there's family history there... again made by Bear.

That's all, and they're already purchased.

I've noticed that I too tend to steer away from the reds, although there are some very nice ones.
