Or everyone is in leather, even the women?
Yes, that is exactly right. They are afraid that people will not to be able to relate to it, don't know it (true), or will be bored.
We are hoping to change that perspective.

Beautiful! I know those both well, and the first one is one of my favorites. I have gathered quite a few antique tartan books, and they are amazing.

BTW, my husband Ron, is now quite an avid kilt wearer. He wears them all the time, and has warm weather (southern California) kilts, and cool weather (Scotland) kilts. Two different animals.

Ahhh, you are in Perthshire, so am I!
One of the most amazing things about designing this, was shooting out in the middle of the Highlands in January in the freezing rain, sleet snow. They are running, fighting, rolling on the ground, riding horseback, doing all sorts of stunt work.
All of the crew had super deluxe, Hi tech gear on, and they were freezing and wet. But our Highlanders who were dressed as Highlanders, were warm and dry. Out tartan has felted a bit and is quite dense, but is also light enough for our actors to wear when on a small set with a raging fireplace and enormous lighting rigs. On those days, the crew is in shorts.
So it serves us very well.

But this show has been very good. Ron is committed to getting it right and celebrating the culture of Scotland. He is a HUGE history buff, hence things like the sequence on will waulking, that was not in this book
The sequence on waulking, as well as the impromptu shinty match (in a previous episode) was absolutely brilliant!

Totally agree, Kyle. And I suspect the depiction of the game is closer to the way Camanachd was originally played. If not then, like some other things in the show, it ought to have been that way.

It was good to see that plain cloth was being waulked and not tartan. Not one of the extant pieces of the period that I've examined was fulled.

Terry,
I think we can cut you some slack. We can understand that some people have jobs and can't spend all day talking about kilts.
And by the way, now that Ron is a kiltie, if you ever come back up to Vancouver I would be honored to host both of you at Freedom Kilts and the home of X Marks. Perhaps we could get you both to sign the logbook of our Quaich next to Diana Gabaldon.
