I agree with Alan H about the belt loops: in fact I have started taking them off my kilts, and I won't be including them in any kilts I make for myself. The lower strap and buckle on the right side are coming off too. But of course, to each his own; and well done for the attic find, it looks terrific. Further bonus too, if your waist size has not changed through the years since construction began!

Very nice, but I thought you only wore Welsh plaids?

Well thats where I'm confused. I read that the Welsh family tartans aren't proper tartan because the sett is different, it is rectangular, rather than square. So I don’t know if its tartan or not.

I've only the one, Powell of Wales I've had made and that was a casual, I have gone for lighter weights, Commercial cilts I have are, Spirit of Wales, Roving Celt and Prince of Wales which is really nice, I got that one on ebay, but I'm waiting on a casual Celtic Nations from USA Kilts. Now the weather is turning, I'm wondering if I should get a tank.

The Scottish Register says:
Despite there being no known tradition of tartan in Wales, this is one of a growing series of commercial Welsh 'name' tartans marketed by the Wales Tartan Centre in Cardiff. Their inclusion in this Index does not confer upon them ANY historical or genealogical credibility and the use of the words 'of Wales' is not of conventional territorial significance but is purely to identify the source and thus avoid confusion with surnames which have a genuine tartan connection. Designed for The Wales Tartan Centre in Cardiff by Sheila Daniel of Cambrian Woollen Mill, Powys, they're unusual in that almost all of them incorporate odd numbered threads and have quite different warp & weft, both in thread numbers and sometimes colours. This places the classification of some of them as tartans in some doubt. Welsh Tartan Centre Cardiff.
