Benning Boy, Thanks for the great information. I see that J. Higgins has a modestly priced 5-yard P/V kilt in my clan tartan (Farquharson), so I may be ordering from them. Is your screen name an allusion to Fort Benning? I spent 20 years in the Army and retired last year.

I am very happy with my kilt from Buy A Kilt . This one I'm using for things like hiking or drinking not having tea with the royals . I'm looking at it now & the tag says 65% Viscose Rayon 35% Acetate fibre ( it really says "fibre") . I don't know if it is from Pakistan or Scotland but my butt look just right in it . If you want to spend a little more USA Kilts makes a fantastic semi traditional with the straps & such but it will run a bit over the $200 limit . I have bought a couple of casuals from them for well under $200 but they are Velcro . Keep in mind that these are the only 2 companies who's kilts I have bought & worn ... yet ... so this is the extent of my first hand knowledge .

Shorty, right, I'm a product of Benning School for Boys -- an old school kinda guy, doubt I'd fit in anymore. I'm retired Army, too.
I've done business with USA Kilts, and, like I said, will be placing an order with them this week. But if you look at a USA Kilts casual kilt, you get velcro closure, which I like, but compare that to a J. Higgins value kilt, you get pretty much the same thing as a USA Kilts casual, but with straps and buckles for basically the same price. That's more in line with what you originally said you wanted.
I'd like to know more about the J. Higgens value kilt. I've never seen one. I've only bought hose from them. However if it gets down to crunch time, and you need more information, I wouldn't mind driving over there and taking a look at the value kilts, if they will go along with it. The USA semi-tradtional kilt in P/V isn't lined in anyway, and neither are the J. Higgins value kilts. It seems to me you might almost get from Higgins the near equivalent of a USA semi-traditional, for the price of a USA casual. I don't know. Just guessing. I'd need to know more.
My impression is that Higgens has good customer service. When I last ordered hose I almost immediately got both a phone call and email from them. But USA Kilts has excellent customer service as well. Toss a coin.
