Sgian and Hose - Dangerous Combo?
Perhaps it is a trivial matter related to personal anatomy but I find that no matter where I position my Sgian the tip of the shieth tends to jut out slightly. y fear is that with the more oen weave of my higher-priced kilt socks (hose) I will wear a hole. My calves are defined but not so defined as to appear monsrtous. Just something I have noticed.
Any ideas?

Without too much science, you probably have noticed a slight indention between the muscle near the shin bone and the muscle running along the side of the leg and yet another between the calf muscle itself. The illustration below shows a natural indent where I place my sqian (inside the box I have drawn.) My guess is your blade is longer than mine or is too deep down inside your hose and threatens your hose if you position your blade there. Note to the snickering among us, my masculinity is not challenged because I admit to a wee blade.

Personally, I would just not wear the sgian dubh. Reasons:
1) a good one costs a lot money,
2) it can snag your hose (as you correctly point out), and
3) in certain parts of the world it's illegal (brott mot "knivlagen" where I'm living).
If anybody asks where the "wee knife" is I would just explain to them that you're a lover and not a fighter.
I've though about a sgian brew thinking they wouldn't snag my hose but being teetotal it wouldn't get too much use from me.

Thinking out side the box here. If you have the nerve for "skin art", get a tattoo of your favorite sgian design. No hose problems with that after the area heals a bit.

Some sgians, especially high quality ones, are very flat, sit snugly against the leg and will not damage the hose.

Is that what you've done, if so let us share in the artwork....

That is an awesome idea, I have been wanting another tattoo. I think instead of just the handle do the whole thing sheath and handle that way if the hose slips a bit it would still look like its in there.

Like this?
I have no such "gap" or "dent". I really think it's an issue with my most recent knife. I need a thinner scabbard.
