The sgian I use has a very smooth rounded tip for the scabbard so I am not worried - also it only cost me $15 yet I get plenty of compliments on it The ornate sheaths are to look nice in a display - not in your sox . Switch to a leather sheath when wearing it . Beware also that while some items may be advertised as sgians that in fact they are too bulky & heavy for the job .
I have seen the sgian dubh tattoos & think it's a great idea especially for those in areas with restrictions & have seen some very nice examples .
