What to wear with the Freedom tartan
It is well know from doing a quick search on here that the Freedom/Gold Bros. tartan isn't the crowd favorite on here. Some might even say that a bag over your head is the best accessory for this tartan. I, however, like it as a tartan that makes one's outfit look a bit more modern without going the MUG rout. I don't know why, but it just looks very modern to me, even before I found out it's registration date. Now on to the actual questions:
Does anyone think that wearing bottle green or lovat blue hose with white flashes with said tartan would be too matchy?
The ensemble that I have in mind of trying this with consists of the Freedom tartan kilt with bottle green hose, white flashes, a black shirt, a gold tie with little blue flecks in it, and a grey tweed crail jacket. I want a semi-conservative, yet distinctly modern kit for an upcoming party that I was invited to.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this idea?
I will try to get some pictures soon, but I have been a little busy lately.

I actually picked up some purple hose to wear with the Freedom tartan. I do like the idea of the white flashes and I do like the idea of a black shirt with a kilt.

I tried to put your description together in my mind. Gold tie with flecks (satin, glossy silk, matte cotton linen?) Let me send you this tie from my stable. Gold/orange on black matte silk. PM address to me. Will this will do you as an alternate?

Duh! Didn't consider until later that you might choose a bow tie. If so disregard, unless my tie can be used. It has served me well and needs to be seen in other parts by new eyes.

I think the OP said white flashes, not white hose. Interesting idea, I can't recall seeing that.

Okay, it was white flashes. And I wear those too.

Okay, I took the proposed ensemble out for a spin today and had the wife snap a couple of pics for discussion. The first is a full shot. Bear in mind it was a bit windy; so the kilt is laying funny and the flashes are defying gravity.

And this second one is to give a better view of the tie.

Tarheel; thanks for the offer, but my stables are getting kind of full and my wife threatened to strangle me with the next tie I bring home. I guess the red one I acquired that forced me to get a second tie rack was a bit too much.

Sir Didymous, I think the bottle green hose look very nice with that kilt. Not sure about the white flashes. Personally, I prefer a bit more color in my flashes. But, it's not horrible looking by any means. Good job!

I was also considering wearing black flashes to match the shirt.
