Kilted Fridays Adventures

Last night I kilted up and the wife took me to the Tilted Kilt in Colonial Heights. I was hoping for a pub atmosphere, maybe an old guy drunk in the corner singing Danny Boy to himself, darts, rugby or cricket on the tv, and some Celtic music playing in the background. Nope. Nothing but a regular old sports bar with some Irish and Scottish posters on the walls and the waitresses wearing mini kilts. Too loud and boisterous for my aging tastes. The food was ok. The manager came over and gave us the 20% employee discount since I was kilted. No need to return.

The guys at work always mention going to Tilted Kilt for lunch or a beer after work whenever I wear my kilt - but it just seems too cheesy and stereotypical, so I politely decline. We did take off an hour early a few weeks ago for a few brews at Grub Burger Bar, and some appreciative ladies treated me to beer and complimented my kiltedness.

Sorry, not very elegant, but tasked with picking blackberries (and plums) and they apparently couldn't wait and it is Friday. Photo results were a touch unpredictable, the camera was actually set to show our new kitten helping me, but it left the scene before the shutter went off!

I've gone to work killed several Fridays now, and I think I've determined that it just isn't practical for me. I get in and out of the truck sometimes as much as 30 times a day, and it ends up just being a hassle. At the end of the day it looks like I slept in the darn thing.

Sure is comfy, though. When I know I won't have a lot of properties to look at ahead of time it might be ok.

I go occasionally. I work in a cube. My wool kilt can generally take the whole day seated on the pleats. My SWK PV kilts however can steam themselves into a rumpled mess. I'll be getting a wrinkle resistant cotton/poly blend in khaki to try. Hopefully it will work a bit better.

During periods of working 18 or 30 hour days, or 140-150 hour weeks back to back to back, I've arrived at work
FEELING killed, but never actually . The arrival to work the following Monday must have felt a real accomplishment .

I recently started wearing the kilt, and I thought it would be a great idea to start doing a 'kilted Friday' thing. My first one was a couple of weeks ago, and I showed up at my community college wearing one of my kilts. I'll admit, I had a bit of a panic attack sitting in the parking lot while thinking about foraying into school with a kilt on, but it was actually a pleasant experience. Yesterday was my third kilted Friday, and I'm already looking forward to next Friday. Now I just need more than two kilts to keep things from getting boring.

Friday morning-afternoon for show setup / utility work, 5.11 tactical duty kilt and tee.

Show reporting-note-taking, social, shopping, dining and seminars Friday and Saturday, family.clan Bonnie Heather Greene 4+ yard tartan and Cabela's "dressy-ish" safari shirt.

Odd, but got more comments on the khaki ripstop plain 5.11 than outstanding tartan. Hmm?

Wearing my only kilt - USA Kilts Jones Modern. Went by the polling place to cast my vote this morning. One of the poll workers told me she'd been manning the desk for 12 years and that I was the first kilted gentleman she'd seen. Working through lunch so I can take an early afternoon with coworkers for a burger and a beer. I'll impose on someone for photos.
