I have always been proud to be Canadian. We don't brag or pound our chests extolling the virtues of our wonderful country. We don't have to.
Scroll down to the photos showing Nathan's sad homecoming.

Nathan Cirillo was from my hometown and from the same neighbourhoods. He will be lying at the same funeral home that members of my family have lain in during our sad times. I only wish that I could have been on the Highway of Heroes or standing on a familiar Hamilton street singing O Canada as the procession went by to show how proud I am. When I wore Turpin's Maple Leaf kilt yesterday, several times I was asked about the tartan and I was able to tell them why I was wearing it - to honour a fallen hero.

Former soldier Ron Roach showed up at the War Memorial Thursday morning to pay his respects to Cirillo and said while it’s “disturbing” the attack happened on Canadian soil, he wasn’t surprised by it.
What hurt him the most was that the attack happened in a deeply sacred space for soldiers, the National War Memorial.
“That is a deep wound for me,” he said. “Which is why I spent an hour here today.”

I know this is like playing a broken record, but there is something about a kilted soldier that is mythical and great. To me it looks like the very definition of a brave warrior. I love how quickly the officers took care of business. The follow clip is from the blaze.com. It is of the House of Commons honoring Sgt at Arms Vickers for his bravery in taking down that SOB terrorist in an awesome way.

Canada's military is morning the deaths of two soldiers this week. Just the day before, Warrant Officer Vincent was struck and killed outside government offices in Quebec by a terrorist wannabe, who had just had just had his passport revoked; the passport was taken because officials suspected he would go abroad to join a terrorist organization. It appears he wanted to make a statement and the Warrant happened to be walking by at the time. The circumstances were similar to the Corporal's death, though the second terrorist had planned his action rather than it being spur of the moment. Both men died in the service of their country and Canada weeps for both.10365836_685589291537651_6616898790950377873_n.jpg

Cheers.
It is far too easy to sway public opinion by using labels; and history has shown that governments have often used media propaganda to benefit their own agendas. There are now many reports that the shooter had a history of mental illness ( see: "http://www.freenewspos.com/en/europe-news-article/a/1336563/bibeau/the-enemy-is-neglect-of-mental-illness-the-tyee "). Instead of moving faster towards increased police-state tactics, it would make more sense to restore and improve mental health funding & treatment, to prevent a repeat of these type of incidents.

Guys, please consider this an official warning; we're not going to compare the relative merits of various political and governmental styles or responses. I am a Canadian and deeply grateful for the supportive comments, but we're simply not going to go down that road here on XMarks.

There's a bit of mixing of the details known of both events. Patrice was killed on Monday, and Nathan on Wednesday. Neither perpetrator had their passport revoked. Considering the reports that perp on Monday sat for two hours in a parking lot, one has to imagine some sort of plan had been hatched as did Wednesday's attacker exhibit indications of having thought out his actions. No link between the two perps has been determined.
I only bring this up because such matters are important. In seeking "reasons why" and passing innocent missteps of information we can loose sight of the realities of a situation which might lead to a lose of prudence and vigilance.
Keep Calm, Carry On, and Wear Your Kilt.
