Inexpensive, but effective kilt hangers from Walmart

Just made another hanger raid on my local WalMart.

Checked their website and they apparently don't list these hangers there, but if you go to the hanger section of the store maybe you'll find them.

They're called Mainstays Swivel Suit Hanger, they come in a 3 pack.

Just a basic plastic hanger with a swivel hook and two clamps on each hanger. But the clamps snap off.

So, I buy a pack for a couple bucks, take the two snaps off one hanger and add one to each of the remaining hangers.

That gives me two good hangers with three clips each and an extra clipless hanger for a couple bucks.

Those three clips hold my Freedom Kilt CADPAT (3 1/2 pounds). After washing a kilt I can take three hangers (9 clips total) and hang a kilt on the bathroom shower rod. I like to put the clips where the belt loops are. I think the nine clip points help hold the pleat shapes and dry the kilts well for cheap.

I use two of this type hanger to hang my kilt while drying. One on the front and one on the back. I keep the hangers apart as far as the material will allow. so there is air flow through the inside. I have also hung my kilt to dry with it hanging in an oval like my body so it drys more to my shape. That seems to help the pleats to dry in the right position better.

i m for the woden hangers cause the plastic ones berak easily on heavy kilts.

Okay, got a pic posted in my personal gallery of the WalMart Hanger. Its holding a PK Desert MARPAT kilt and "sporran."

Shows the hanger with the third clip pirated from a donor hanger. These hangers are sturdy...I like them.

You can get those clips in bags of a dozen and use em on plastic hangers you already have.

Just found those bags of clips right next to the hangers at WalMart...duh...bag of 12 for 1.88, I can live with that.

But rather than putting the clips back on hangers I found they work real well clipped to the bottom of pleats when a non-traditional kilt is hang drying on three hangers.

The clip holds the pleat shape while it drys and provides just enough weight to let the pleats hang straight while they dry.

A lot cheaper than tablecloth weights too.

Please bear with me! This may be a dumb question but I'm a new kilt wearer. I have not had to wash a kilt yet but when I do, would it be a mistake to hang it totally spread out? That is, in a straight line. I figure that it would dry faster this way. Maybe the shower-rail could be utilized. Where am I going wrong with this thinking? - Alan

I do spread my kilt out flat in a room rarely used (at least at the time) to let it dry. or if space permits in my laundry room along a pole I have where I can hang it with the kilt hangers length wise, using about two or three hangers to keep it as wrinkle free as possible.

When the kilt is dry then I can hang it up in my closet.

I have a fluorescent light fixture in my laundry room. When I want to dry a kilt, I get two kilt hangers (i.e. with the clamps on them) and put one hanger at each end of the kilt. Then I hang both hangers from the light fixture. Since the fixture is four feet long, the kilt gets to spread out and both sides are exposed to open air. If I hang it up around supper time, it is dry when I get up in the morning.
