just got a tin whistle!

I recently bought a tin whistle to play celtic music on. Any other tin whistle players here?

Congratulations. Have you played a wind instrument before? That helped me immensely. What key is it in? I find D most useful when playing with others with strings and such. Also note that the D whistle (ironically not the C) is actually parallel to a C concert flute. Happy tootling.

i have not played a wind instrument before. i actually switched from mandolin. it is in the key of D. my mum is going to give the fiddle a go so we can practice some celtic music "duets"

I have two, I made both from CPVC following instructions off the web, one is a traditional penny whistle in the key of D, the other is in Bb and is a 7 hole GHB chanter design.

Both sound beautiful, I'm working on using my chanter more, I just made it recently and need to work on getting comfortable with it.

I've been playing whistle since the 1970s.

Here's the roll I take to gigs as it appeared a couple years ago



with whistles in every key chromatically from Low D to High Eb. (You never know what key you're going to need until you see the sheetmusic at the gig.)

My roll looks different now! A black MK has replaced that red one, and Sindts have replaced Generations/modified Generations and Burkes for A, Bb, B, and D.

I also have a Low C by Ronaldo Reyburn in the roll now.

I still have those two Susatos for rarely used keys, Ab and Gb.

I modified a C Generation into a C# one to fill in that gap.
