MacGumerait is right about the over the top "redneck" persona. Its the real rednecks here in Mississippi I have to live around that won't get that part. GOD BLESS US Y'ALL! I know, 'cause I are one at times.

Duck Dynasty is meant to be humorous and designed whereas the humor is pointed at themselves . At the end of each episode they always give a message of family and community .
A&E controls the content of the show in order to make it a bit " over the top redneck " in order to get ratings , which is kind of humorous . It is in a way , just us Americans poking fun at ourselves . ( not all of us just part of us with good humor )
I'm sure the Scottish people are keen enough to see right thru it for the humor that's intended .... after all , the Brits are the masters of that style of humor and comedy .
Let's all breathe easy .

Please - Take a deep breath, everyone! This is a light-hearted COMEDY show. It does NOT pretend to be a documentary on how real people in the South behave, any more than 9021-whatever represented everyone in California, or "Dallas" represented everyone in Texas, or "Seinfeld" accurately represented all New Yorkers or all Jewish comedians. Heck, I can watch comedy shows on BBC America without imagining I'm seeing a documentary on typical UK behavio(u)r. And if a "Dumb redneck" like ME can handle that, I'm pretty sure the good folks in Scotland can handle Duck Dynasty!
Frankly, compared to the Cultural SEWAGE that is pumped into most American homes every evening on Network Television, D.D. is actually far superior and presents a far better image of ethics and morals, despite the buffoonish story lines.
AND, if this silly comedy show prompts even a handful of people to more thoughtfully consider their heritage, is it REALLY such a bad thing????

I agree completely! After all, they are just as much Scottish as most of us on this forum. And if you think about it, a lot of Scotts settled in the "Hills" when they arrived in America. This is because it reminded them more of the Highland of home.
Don't forget everyone, they could have sent Honey Boo Boo to Scotland and that would have been a Redneck\White trash embarrassment.

Thank you Tom and Mudge, I have needed to see a therapist for an inferiority complex session. You've both saved me money. My new mantra will be, "they are not real and therefore not me."

What's so surprising here? Didn't RockyR recently predict the collapse of civilization?!
DD is reality TV, meaning of course that there is absolutely nothing real about it! Well, perhaps not "nothing." Their wives are really hot!
I'll be disappointed if I don't see any Robertson Hunting by the end of the episode.
The Ghillie Suit was invented by a Scot, no? In that sense, DD seems to fit nicely, IMO.
Regards,

The problem with America's "representation" in the rest of the world is that they get our BAD TV Shows, which highlights the dregs of our society. When we were in Ireland and Scotland, we would see American TV shows like Jerry Springer, Maury, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Judy, etc. These shows, while entertaining, give the impression to less discerning individuals that "all Americans are like that".
Please know, we are not and that we here in America generally look down on those shows as 'drivel' at worst and / or mindless entertainment at best. It's not taken seriously here and is a shame that this is what's 'exported' from our country.
HOPEFULLY the DD series won't be exported. If it is, I sincerely apologize on behalf of those who are embarrassed by this.
Parallel... it's kind of like having a weird uncle who is coming to Christmas dinner at your girlfriend's parent house. All we can do is cringe and apologize and hope they don't think less of the rest of us.
