New from Indiana
No, I am not Scottish. Yes, I have a kilt.
I attend a yearly Burns night at a friends house and went for years wearing my daily clothes. Some wore a kilt and some wore a complete outfit and of course the ladies wore some kind of plaid so I decided to do something but was shocked by the prices so went out and found a nice wool plaid (not tartan) at $10 bucks a yard and made a great kilt with 5 yards along with a linen shirt, a dirk (a big one), and a cheap sporran. It was a hit so I have been adding to it for the next Burns night. This year I added boots, a Scots Bonnet by the gal that made them for the Outlander series and an 18th century sleeveless waistcoat. I would like to have a sleeved waistcoat but can't find what I want so ordered a pattern and may try to put one together myself.
The best part about Burns night is that the host has around 100 different bottles of single malt scotch.

Hello Hoosier8. Welcome to X Marks. Burns Nights' are a lot of fun and my wife and I been attending them for several years now.
As you appear to be doing, work on your kit and add to it as you learn. The first one I attended, I was not kilted (didn't own one then). Since then I have gradually built my kit and now attend them THCD.
You'll get there! The best thing you can do, you've already done; that is you've joined X Marks and we are glad you did. You'll learn a lot here and we look forward to your participation.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. The fella usually buys two bottles, one to stash away in the cellar and one to put on the shelf for friends to sample. I try and relieve him of his problem every visit.
