My first DIY sporran

I looked at images of a lot of leather-cantle sporrans, especially of fur. Most of these were made by the aforementioned craftsmen. From what I could not tell in images, I used my creativity. Using this I constructed a sort of pattern and then winged it.

I would still love a heirloom quality piece of art like Artificer makes, maybe a hair sporran, but until then I have a brown, relatively plain sporran to use when not using my black and sealskin one that I have had for over a decade.

Issac, as stated elsewhere, I think you've done a fine job with this sporran. To me it has an authentic feel of a vintage French & Indian War Era, which comes as no surprise, given the depth of your understanding of the period. I'd happily wear this with my predominantly brown Macduff Hunting Modern Kilt.

I am very impressed by the pelts you just received from the Tanners. If you are of a mind to develop a sideline in rustic sporrans with your glorious pelts, I would happily commission one! If you ask me, it sounds like a very appropriate way to raise funds for your own @artificer heirloom sporran.

Thank you Mr. Duff!! That means a lot. I have no huge plans yet for those furs, but my struggling ability stitching heavy leather has me "sitting the sidelines" for awhile and on to other, non-sporran, projects for the now. I do know that my wife wants another beaver fur blanket, so I will likely squirrel away a few of those beaver hides (if not all) for that project (need to add a few more yet if it is to be a big blanketl). Likely the muskrats will be sold off. The bison... that is will be another blanket for those cold winter nights sleeping out in the snow during my historic adventures. I do have more hides to be sent to the tannery soon as well as hope to procure a few more yet this winter.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I was only speaking in principle regarding those lovely pelts. It was the Beaver and the Bison which struck me. If some were to come along at some point in the future that are not earmarked for another project then count me in. Your lifestyle, and the beaver especially puts me in mind of my Maternal ancestor, John Broughton who was a Fur Trapper and Trader on the Connecticut River in 1635. I have always felt a very close connection /affinity with him and his descendants who also served in the 2nd Connecticut Regiment and with Roger's Rangers in 1758-61. It's a rich family history on Mum's paternal side. I admire what you do to preserve those ways, raise your family and educate others of the richness and value of the history and way of life.
