I have several pairs of kilt hose from Alexis Malcolm...They're good quality, and wear well! And besides, she's a pleasure to do business with!

He is also correct, I'd say, in thinking that the hose worn by those guys is, indeed, kilt hose. I'm afraid, although I have several pairs, I find that soccer/football socks are too thin to provide the 'weighty' visual balance required when kilt wearing, and so I normally wear kilt hose pulled up for 'formal', pushed down for 'casual' and rolled down for 'smart casual'!
Here I am 'smart casual', in off-white kilt and kilt hose, in the gardens at Buckingham Palace last year:

I can only assume that was by pesonal invitiation from the Queen, Hamish. How was tea with the royals?
I too find that kilt hose add a better weight and look. Having said that i have recently purchased wool work socks that look great when worn with a kilt and boots.

Ham,
I am sure that you made a rather good impression with the entire Royal Family.
You look really good with those boots on.

Oh, you know Colin - a choice of finest Darjeeling or Earl Grey, with a selection of one-bite sandwiches and a slice of Dundee cake. The usual sort of thing.

I forgot to include Walking socks as being a good alternative to kilt hose. They're just as thick but can only be turned down once, so not as much 'bulk' or weight at the ankles, and a poor choice of colours.

THANKS HAMISH!
I've been trying to find the way to verbalize my thoughts on the kilt hose... and THAT'S IT!
The "weighty visual balance" is exactly why I wear the Piper's Hose. I'm not exactly Highland Athlete size here, so I can use all the "weighty" I can get!

Nice photo Hamish, yes. I love the "look" of your socks.
I'll order some more today.
I love the area around the Palace, last time I was there we waited ages to see the changing of the guard, but it was worth it.
Next time there I'll be kilted!
