    Attempting a Conversion

No, not a north american football post

Having been motivated to produce a sporran by the many DIYers sharing their experiences here, I am giving a sport jacket conversion a go. It is a single vent, external pocket, forest green of good quality that I was given. Yep, a freebee. We even had a huge sewing spool of matching green thread in the house already. No skin in the game other than my own time. Mind you, I don't think it made much difference in the pit of my stomach when the scissors began their work.
Unlike the sporran, I haven't photographed the progress, but did take a shot of where I am thus far. I set the bottom hem line with pins with the kilt on, and made a paper pattern for the front panels. All hand stitching to this point, though I've a machine to do the finish edge.
I spent quite a bit of time viewing crail and other jacket images online. I'm not entirely happy with having kept the second button. Figure if it doesn't look right, I can cut again.

As can be seen, I've plenty of material for faux pocket flaps, cuff embellishment and epaulets. Any patterns for those I would most graciously receive and appreciate.

Ive made a jacket from the Simplicity 5029 pattern and didn't nor do I ever plan to use the pocket, sleeve cuffs or epaulet pattern parts. I can easily mail these few pieces to you and you can modify them to fit your jacket. Please pm me if you are interested. If you are curious of what the jacket looks like just google up the Simplicity pattern.

While not patterns, I posted this how-to a while back for constructing epaulettes and and pocket flaps. It might give some inspiration.

Actually, a conversion is really a NFL term. In Canada, you'd go for the convert.

Weel - only if the geographical limit in your discussion of the use of the term is confined to North America. I submit that the origin, and continued use, of 'conversion' to describe the additional point(s) available for kicking a ball between the goalposts dates from the development in the UK of rugby from soccer. This was quite a bit before american football got going.

The link to kilts is that Scotland has not beaten the All Blacks from New Zealand since their first test match in 1905.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing the result of Taskr's handiwork.

And, of course, in my trade conversion has a completely different meaning. ( to )
