Ian Rankin in the Oxford Bar on Young Street in the New Town. This is an oft-visited watering hole by his principle character DI Rebus.

CJ Sansom's well-researched life in the time of abbey dismemberment under Henry VIII is worth reading. He has developed a likable lawyer character, Shardrake, to help him describe the conditions of those who were turned out of the monasteries and convents and the newly acquired wealth of those who were gifted their lands. Read them in order, if you can.

Is that Greyfriars Kirkyard in the second photo?

I've read a couple of Rankin books (The Falls and The Colour of Blood) and quite enjoyed them, but not so as to read the rest. Last week I saw in the National Museum of Scotland the miniature coffins that play such an important part in The Falls.

"The Death of an Irish Lass" a Peter McGarr Mystery by Bartholomew Gill. I have now read several Peter McGarr mysteries by Gill and really enjoy them.

Simon Fraser fought as MacShimidh, a Highland chief… wrapped and belted in a plaid over the top of his linen shirt, like his ordinary kinsmen. He put a bonnet on his head, and stuck the Fraser emblem, a sprig of yew, in it. With the battle cry, A'Chaisteal Dhunaidh and the scream of the pipes, they charged to battle. "The Last Highlander" Sara Fraser

Ian Rankin's mysteries are some of my favorite to read. Tough and gritty!

I just finished the new Pendergast novel, "Blue Labyrinth" by Preston & Child. The authors have written a long series of books concerning this unique character that I simply cannot ignore, as they are about as exciting as anything I've ever read.

    Cheers!

So... still working through my Ludlum collection. Since my last post in August, I have gotten through The Chancellor Manuscript, The Acquitaine Progression, The Matarese Circle and The Matarese Countdown. Now working on The Parsifal Mosaic. Next up is The Icarus Agenda.

Kinda slow going reading only a chapter or two per night ...
    John
