Behold a pair of hose. With castellated tops.

These socks / hose are all wool. As you can see, they are knitted in an argyle pattern. However, they are quite thin, described by their maker as ultra fine. They seem designed to maske sklinny legs look even skinnier, as is the fashion.

However, I do not have skinny legs and they don't make my legs look skinny.

They are the right height to wear as kilt hose and they have the traditional castellated tops.

Are they suitable for wear as a part of a traditional kilt ensemble?

I'd have to see them on to fully form an opinion. From the picture the texture seems so fine that they don't even pretend to be possibly "hand knit" and don't look "expensive" enough for black tie. That's just my initial gut reaction.

There is a private school system near me that has a uniform code and the girls wear these same hose/socks. They are thin and probably cooler for summer days. I've seen the children wear them over dark blue tights in the winter (I expect for warmth.) Even though they might be used for kilts, I know my leg hair would poke through and make them look very strange.

They appear quite thin. I'm not sure they would give a good overall look when worn with the rest of the outfit.

    ML,

I would not wear them with my kilt. I don't like the colors, and they don't look 'kilt hosey' to me.

I can't tell by the attached picture if they would make good kilt hose or not. Personally I'm not a fan of castellated tops in general, however, because they show one's garters... a bit too historical for my taste.

The hose appear to have a different castleation if that is indeed a word, than I am familiar with. Personally that coupled with the perceived thickness would be enough for me to give them a pass.

For somebody like me, with big calves, diced or tartan hose need to be shaped. Otherwise the pattern is distorted.

That's why the Higgins tube-type diced and tartan hose don't work for me.

Here's my notion of what 'castellated' hose are. These are "thriced" hose from Skye Highland Outfitters, dicing in green, purple, and brown. In person they're not that dark, and match the kilt very well

Due to my big calves (18") the garters aren't long enough to make a cool-looking bow... I just knot them. Ugly but functional.

Well I guess those 'thriced' hose are a bit darker than that tartan, eh? I just found this photo of them. To match the kilt better, a softer seafoam or moss green would need to be used.
