I feel compelled to add a bit of colorful nautical humor here- having been though of as a pirate in the past. . . depending on who you ask privateer and pirate are a matter of semantics.

"A man walks into a bar with a wooden helm awkwardly sticking half out of the top his pants. He limps up to the bar and orders a whiskey.
The barkeep, no stranger to the strange that walks into his bar, poured and lingered near; as this fellow surely will require more in the way of strong drink.
The man negotiated his way onto a stool, the helm still protruding from his britches.
On the third pour, the barkeep could no longer contain his curiosity. "Sir, are you aware that you have a ship's wheel down the front of your trousers?!"
"Arrr" said the man with a grin, "She's diving me nuts!" "

And my personal favorite. . .

"What do men and decking have in common?
    - Yah lay 'em right the first time, you can walk on 'em forever."
I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast; for I intend to go in harms way. - John Paul Jones
